My hair has been, perhaps one of the most neglected things in my life. I have dyed it myself in every imaginable color since I was 16 (most of the times with questionable results). I hardly ever use treatments or cut it, and most of the times I just wear it in a tight bun. A recipe for disaster.

However, I still consider myself extremely lucky because, despite all the negligence, my hair has always been surprisingly healthy. Until now. I suppose just like the rest of me, the closer I get to turn 30, the earlier signs of aging are starting to show. It seems like finally, my hair is starting to resent the mistreatment so I decided to start taking care of it.

A classic and simple remedy

Since I am relatively new at this, I started by researching easy home remedies. That’s how I ended up finding olive oil. Apparently, olive oil as a hair treatment that’s been around for ages and I am basically a super late adopter. But hey, I tried it and loved it and that’s why I’m sharing it.

How to apply

It really doesn’t get easier than this. You just need to put a small amount in your hands, rub it for a few seconds to heat it up and spread it all around your (unwashed) hair. I do it from the ends (where is most damaged) towards the roots. Once all your hair is covered, you can also massage your scalp a little bit, just like you would while shampooing.

Lastly, I recommend you to wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap to let it heat. Apparently, heat is a key factor to let the olive oil penetrate and work its magic. Try to leave it on as long as you can; at least half an hour, and then wash your hair as you normally would.

A gradual change

Maybe you won’t see a great change after the first application; at least that’s what happened to me. But if you do it regularly, trust me, you will start seeing the results. I, for example, try to apply it for a couple of hours on the weekends, while having breakfast or just watching Netflix. After about 3 weeks using this mask, my hair is incredibly softer, shinier and overall healthier; and I am pretty sure it will continue to improve the longer I use it.

What I love the most about this treatment is that olive oil is extremely easy to find (maybe it’s already in your kitchen) and you only need a tiny amount even in long hair. I would have never imagined something so simple and cheap would be so effective.

I hope you enjoyed this post and leave me a comment to know if this mask is also new to you, or if I truly am the last person on Earth to find out about it. As always, thank you so much for reading and may the force be with you. Until next time!
